Frequently Asked Questions
My kingdom time is going up very little or not at all, what's going on?
Your regent will expend time on gold and/or walls if maximum kingom time is being approached. The regent will also expend time to generate gold regardless of how much kingdom time is available if there is less than 500,000 gold in your treasury. This is done an attempt to prevent your castle and military from falling into degradation due to lack of gold for upkeep.

Why did my upkeep increase dramatically?
Your prestige affects how readily you can acquire and retain troops. At very low prestige the upkeep on troops is significantly higher.

Why is it that when I attack sometimes, even though the exact same type and number of forces are involved, I do a lot more or a lot less damage?
Troops and walls become degraded when an upkeep payment is missed. If you have no gold to pay upkeep your troops as well as your walls will eventually be degraded by up to 60%. Acquiring gold does not immediately alleviate the condition. Units will return to normal capacity at the next 15 minute interval that sufficient gold is available to pay upkeep.

If you attack a castle or troops which are in degradation you will do significantly more damage than usual. Conversely if you attack with your forces in degradation you will do significantly less damage than usual.

Why does the amount of prestige I lose change when I am attacking the same ruler?
Prestige loss is based on the difference in power between you and the target of your attack. The amount of prestige lost is based upon how much weaker your target is than you. The greater the difference in power the greater your prestige loss will be. As you attack someone, their power may decrease as you destroy their troops or walls. Also, your power may increase or decrease depending on actions you take, such as procurring additional troops, or garnering gold. Each time you attack, your power is compared to the power of your target to determine if there is any prestige loss and if so, how much. To avoid prestige loss, attack kingdoms that have roughly the same power or greater than your kingdom.

Why did I lose a huge amount of prestige for attacking the forces of a ruler who had about the same power as me?
A large force attacking a small force (a massacre) can cause significant prestige loss. This loss would be in addition to the presitge lost due to power difference if any. This type of prestige loss can be avoided by attacking with roughly the same number of troops or less, as your target.

How do I improve my prestige?
Prestige can be raised by spending gold. Click 'Prestige' on State of Affairs page. Slaying a dragon also improves prestige. The larger the dragon the more prestige gained. Prestige also increases slowly over time. If your prestige drops very low it's best to wait for it to raise some, or slay dragons, because it will take enormous amounts of gold to raise prestige when it is at very low levels.

My population is very low because I have been plundered so much. Now what?
Your population grows slowly over time. Since population affects how much gold you make from garnering riches it's not the best way to get gold if your population is extremely small. However, alchemy is not affected by population and can be used to generate gold but it requires a high skill rating with a good formula to provide adequate return for the time involved. Slaying dragons can provide a very good amount of gold if you can muster a large enough attack force to make it cost effective. You can sell off some of your walls, land, and castle to raise gold to buy troops to send against a dragon. Another way to acquire gold is to take down a castle with a large treasury whether you do it alone or working in concert with fellow allegiance members since the loot can be split.

Also, if you have the appropriate components you can cast the "Populate" spell which will increase the population of your kingdom.

What's the best way to obtain gold?
There is no one best way. The best way at any given time is determined by your kingdom's current resources and capabilities, your relationship with other rulers, and the current world environment. What may be best at one time may not be at another or for a different ruler.

How do I keep my castle from getting destroyed so much?
Losing your castle is part of the game, however there are actions you can take to deter attackers. Having large walls and a small amount of gold makes you an unattractive target. A good rule of thumb is to always try to have more walls than gold. Large numbers of troops can also keep some would be attackers at bay.
If you are repeatedly losing your castle then a good idea is to use your relocation time to build up adequate defenses. If you do not have enough time to build adequate defenses during relocation then you may be able to get more time by casting spells such as Evade, Shadow Murk, Mirror Mist, or Fog Pack. These spells will extend the amount of time you have to rebuild without concern for being attacked.
Joining an allegiance may also help since many rulers are adverse to attacking someone who is part of an allegiance because they will be risking reprisals by the entire allegiance.

How do I build a good allegiance?
Strong allegiances are usually built around a core of experienced and reliable players. Players that are willing to devote the time to educate, assist, and lead others. Learn the game well and find a few good players you work well with and build up from there. New players will be drawn to your allegiance when they see its accomplishments and professionalism. It's hard work to build and maintain an allegiance. It's more than just putting out a bunch of invitations and then sending a welcome message to those who join. You have to convince the players not only in word but deed as to why they should be part of your allegiance and how it will benefit them, as well as letting them know what will be expected of them. Once you do have several players, there is a significant investment of time and work involved with managing, teaching, directing, scheduling, as well as diplomacy and dealings with other allegiances. The best allegiances communicate significantly everyday with their members.
